Alliance Safety Equipment offers a range of fit testing services to ensure Personal Protective Equipment is the best fit for each worker.  Fit test services on offer include:

  • Fit Testing (Quantitative)
  • E-A-Rfit Testing (3M brand only)
  • Eyewear Fit Testing (3M brand only)

Why Fit Test?

In accordance with AS/NZS 1715:2009, fit testing is required before a user wears a respirator on the job to determine an appropriate match between the face-piece of the respiratory protection equipment and the face of the wearer.

E-A-Rfit - The noise attenuation levels indicated on the earplugs or earmuffs may not provide adequate protection if worn incorrectly or with improper fit. The 3M E-A-Rift Dual-Ear Validation System measures the effectiveness of hearing protectors from inside a worker's ears, providing accurate, quantitative results.

Eyewear - The 3M Eyewear Fit System introduces a simple method designed to help select the best-fitting eyewear for each worker.

What Is A Quantitative Fit Test?

Respirators are used to protect the user from inhaling hazardous materials, however, they can only function effectively when they provide a tight seal against the wearer's face.

A quantitative fit test relies on an instrument called a Portacount machine. The Portacount machine will detect and measure the amount of leakage that is occurring around the face seal and produce a numerical result called a "fit factor."

Once the quantitative fit test is successfully completed, the wearer is issued with a pass certificate report.

Attendance

When attending a Fit Test you must:

  • Be cleanly shaven (see the bottom of this page for more information on facial hair styles)
  • Do not smoke for at least 30 minutes prior to your appointment
  • Bring your existing mask with you (if you already have one)
Please do not attend if you have a fever or any symptoms of respiratory infection including cough, sore throat or shortness of breath.  Please contact us to reschedule your appointment.

What To Expect On The Day

You will be asked to present the respirator you are currently using (alternatively, we have a selection of respirators you can choose from/purchase on the day).

We offer a comprehensive quantitative fit testing service and respirator user training. Our technicians will review how to don the respirator, how to inspect it and how to adjust it properly.

The technician will also explain the purpose of the test, how the equipment works and what is expected during the testing procedure. During the fit testing process, the employee performs exercises that simulate workplace movements. A complete fit test takes approximately 15 minutes.

Regular Testing

Testing should be updated at least annually or if the wearer changes the size, style, or brand of the respirator and if there are any changes to the wearer's face such as facial hair, weight fluctuations or dental work.

Our service offering includes an annual reminder via email or SMS text to remind you when your annual fit test is due.

Why Choose Alliance Safety Equipment?

Our goal when providing the fit testing service is to not merely comply with regulations but to ensure the respiratory protection supplied to yourself or your employees fits and is being worn correctly.

All Alliance Safety Equipment technicians completing the Quantitative Fit Testing have been fully trained in all fundamentals of Face Fit Testing using a Portacount Machine.
